Cash Games Strategy

Cash games offer you a lot of flexibility – you can enter whenever you want and leave whenever you want. If you leave, you can take all your chips with you and cash them out. You can buy-in any amount you like. The blinds in a cash game are always the same. If you lose all your chips, you can continue by buying some more. With such freedom, it is important that you exploit the features of the game to your benefit. Here's how you can do so:

  • Don't play every hand: You have all the time in the world to wait for the right hand. If you are unhappy with the cards that you are dealt, then fold. There is no reason to lose money.
  • Buy-in enough: Always buy-in about 100 times the amount of the big blind. You do not want to face a situation where your only choices are going all-in or folding when you are not sure of what you can make of your cards.
  • Aim to win it all: If you can find weak players, exploit them. Don't feel bad, you are there to make money.
  • Be patient and observe: You should wait till you have to play the big blind naturally. That way, you will get the time to observe other players and to understand their patterns. Figure out who are aggressive and what kind of bets can make players fold in various stages of the game.
  • Choose your table and seat: The format of the game allows you to change your table whenever you want. Walk around and figure out which table you want to join. If you feel that you need to get out of the current table, do so. While choosing your seat, try to keep the more aggressive players to your right and the passive ones on your left. However, remember that there is no such thing as an “unlucky seat” or a “lucky seat”.

If you really want to win, take your time, find the best seat on the best table, be patient and play only when you have to or are dealt cards that are difficult to beat.
